BBM ka new craze!

I am not a Blackberry user. And till some days back I had least interest in knowing about how different BBM messenger service works from Whatsapp, WeChat and other video audio chat apps. Whatsapp is enough to connect me with my dear ones. So to enhance my little knowledge about BBM service, that was limited to speaking about it at public gathering, I googled it and in this way Wikipedia tells me-

“BlackBerry PIN is an eight character hexadecimal identification number assigned to each BlackBerry device. PINs cannot be changed manually on the device (though BlackBerry technicians are able to reset or update a PIN server-side), and are locked to each specific BlackBerry. BlackBerry devices can message each other using the PIN directly or by using the BlackBerry Messenger application.”

Just a few days away from Diwali, people had another reason for celebration. BBM PIN! The big news around the newspapers and web was- BBM for Android and iPhone surpasses 20 million downloads. This update was followed by another hot news- Blackberry now has 80 million users. Finally people at Blackberry had reason to celebrate diwali. Talking about the new Pin that most of my friends have put on their FB wall and twitter handle, oh thats so great! Now can we expect from Taliban to stop killing innocent? Saas Bahu serials will vanish off the television? A sensible film will make 100crore at BO? Or at least Bigg Boss will have a sensible person? None of these will come true just because you are using BBM service on your smartphone. Why so much hungama on this simple audio-video chat service!!!

*Oh I forgot to put up a notice- This article may be offensive for hardcore BBM users. Please avoid reading. Have a nice chatty day ahead.*

Ok so why suddenly BBM became a thing of status and pride among youth and many android and iphone users. Actually not really a thing of pride for iphone owners as they were already so proud of owing a iphone. Idiots! Reason for this newly acquired pride can be because earlier they couldn’t afford BBM service! And also that Blackberry phones were not really famous among youth, reason being its portrait as a business phone. Possibility seems true! While this is just a probability, I have found the big reason behind this sudden like for BBM service. It is the typical human nature of getting bored with what we have and what we have been using for long. To make you understand with some simple examples- A long range of cars being introduced in every car line from sedan to SUVs, shifting from orkut to facebook to twitter (However, FB still holds a good market share on social media), new mobile phones introduced in every 20 days (I am proud of Micromax that has emerged as a front runner) and the usual changes that we make in our daily life. One most common example of ‘how we instantly change our preference’- Every month I go to Dmart with my mother to buy our stuff that should last for that month. We buy alot of items from deos to biscuits and bathroom items. One area of shopping where my mother always gets stuck is ‘Which soap to buy’. My mother smells different soaps dozen of times and after satisfying herself with the best, she then calculates how much extra to pay for that XYZ brand that smells better than other ABC brand that we have already used. This is something to which we don’t pay attention but it does make a big difference in the way we spend money. In this same way we use services. I can clearly remember it that when I was in 10th grade or 11th grade (2008), I had made my Orkut because all my friends had an account on this scrapbook website. Back then I couldn’t understand that why do we need a internet website to talk with same people with whom we spent 7-8 hours in school. Only after using it for 15-20 days I come to know why it has been made. Then after some years, came Facebook that gave us a reason to keep our chats and messages private. I don’t know when Twitter was launched but it become famous only after a few years of Facebook. In India, people became aware about Twitter because of celebrities, high class politicians and people with cheap mentality. It is worth noticing that in our country people become familiar more quickly with online chatting and posting than knowing about deadly diseases. The other craze that caught up with people on these networking sites is posting a picture of them. On facebook, pictures with friends and family are posted whereas in twitter celebrities put pictures of themselves in weirdest looks (called Selfie), partying around the world and the HD pictures of their newly launched film or business brand.

I had started with writing about BBM service and I ended up writing about social media. Clearly shows how obsessed am I with social media. Is it good or bad?
