In old golden days,
parents used to teach one most important lesson to their kids for a better
co-ordinated life. They always emphasised on value of sharing. Sharing makes
life easy, this was the main objective. Every parent wants a tension free and
smooth life for their kids. If you will share your happiness, that will spread
happiness and make few people smile and if you will share your pain, you will
feel light. So the concept of sharing is applicable in both the cases.
Parents used to tell
many real and imaginary stories to their kids, mostly as bedtime stories, for a
better understanding. In all these years, majority of parents have stopped
teaching such good things to their children and it is bad. As I always say,
when electricity is not there, you can light up a candle. Learning is a natural
process just like the flow of water...learning can find its source just like
flowing water make its way through big rocks. Kids learn either from parents or
inside the house but when there is no learning at home, they look out. They
observe and absorb. Apart from school, teachers, friends and acquaintances,
internet have also emerged as a strong source for making us aware and teaching
us various aspects of life. Unfortunately this source is not just limited to
good things but also we absorb bad and extremely ugly knowledge. Now the time
has come, when you can make a bomb at home.
But on a brighter
side, Internet tells us how beautiful this world is, about human evolution,
daily news update, latest scientific development in space and medicine and much
more. While an average youngster does not take a serious notice to daily
updates about the all around the world developments and is happy in his/her
happy little world, social networking sites have proved worth.
Talking about how
internet sites have brought back the value of sharing back in our life, I say,
Social networking sites have provided us with a very powerful tool for the
expression of mutual like and dislike, acceptance and rejection, agree and
disagree. While Facebook has put this feature as ‘Share’, rival social
networking platform Twitter allows us to ‘Retweet’. I am not on LinkedIn so I
don’t know if any such facility exists there. Moreover I view LinkedIn as a
serious, corporate type of website, essentially not made for kids. I will
explain the need of sharing in this way- If A has read a good article on
internet (like this one!) he can post it on his wall, can put it on twitter
handle and can mail its link to his friend B and chain continues. In this way,
that good article is getting shared and many people are reading it. Same is the
case of videos and updates. In a way, I like the concept of online
knowledge/education. Students can learn at their ease but than the other side
shows that this ease is extended and ultimately the purpose behind online
education gets ruined. Oh this is not the main topic so we will keep online
education aside.
Both these tools
(SHARE AND RETWEET) have made a good impact and in a sense it has brought many
alike minds together. If we look at the big picture, apart from playing a big
role in our lives, these platforms have united the young and restless youth of
our country towards a greater. In last 2-3 years, Indian youth has started talking
openly on issues like- Rape, dowry, bisexual, same gender marriage, violence on
women and obviously dirty politics. They have a lot to express and they want to
enter in a debate with the office holders (government).
I won’t write about so many unfortunate incidents happened in India and around the
world (one of them being December rape case in Delhi), that has brought us
(young) together as a mutual community that is aware of why we need to give
respect to poor, handicap, minor and women. It hurts me a lot to write why we
should respect each other existence because if I have grown up so much to make
opinion on their (girls) clothing then we should also be aware of their self
respect!
One part that I like
from the story of Facebook- ‘Once at
college, Zukerberg’s facebook started off as just a ‘Harvard thing’ until
Zukerberg decided to spread it to other schools....’
Well that is sheer
luck that ‘Harvard thing’ has become a way of living your social life!
(I would like people
to share this article on their wall...LOL)
Well Written Buddy.
