Hole In Whole

There is a midsized hole present in the whole of our administrative and educational system. And the bad news is, this hole is expanding to break the whole.

Two of my childhood friends are flying to USA to pursue their higher studies. I was sad for two varying reasons- one that my good friends were leaving me and second, they hadn’t considered any Indian college for their studies. So I asked them this obvious question separately, out of the emotional burst inside me, ‘Why don’t you study here in India?’ There was a mutual answer that ended the topic related conversation forever, ‘Dude all my hardwork and efforts for a better future will be flushed infront of the rusty reservation system’.

Very true!

Let me tell this, one of these two young minds had always dreamed of becoming an administrative person, determined to bring the necessary changes in the decade old book of law.

I won’t be writing about the origin of this reservation system, for that you can surf Google. Origin always leads to unnecessary involvement of many political parties and names of some leaders-cum-Gods. But I will be putting on the table, some very simple and understandable issues that get affected by this ‘Favour that particular person’ system. This reservation system has been rooted so deep inside our law books and inside human brain that it looks like an impossible task to live in a world of equality. But as they say, you can’t clap with one hand; there is a dark past to this system. There is no denying in the fact that at a time, before the formation of this system there was a class of people that suffered a lot in the hands of people belonging to higher castes. One man who tried hard to bring all the castes together was Gandhi. He used to address people of lower castes as ‘Harijan’ meaning- God’s people. These people were treated like animals to be termed as ‘untouchable’. Harsh realities of past does make this system worth and necessary but not in the present time when people in urban have equal access to all resources. Every parent of any caste, creed and colour can send their kids to school for primary schooling. Talking about the rural area, if government policies will be implemented systemically, all can be achieved without preferring any particular class.

A mother cannot do partially among her own children. Because favouring the one give rise to revolt of others.

We all hate it when a person who works or studies with us is favoured by the boss or teacher. We completely ignore that person’s celebration time, cursing them in every breath that we take. What kind of competition is it? And can it be termed as competition at all? No I don’t think so.  It is us the human who have divided so much that now we consider ourselves all alone. We have religions to fight over, colour to differentiate over and castes to divide over. A fair competition can be seen only when both the competitors have balanced access to all the available resources. I am thankful to God that in the games of boxing and wrestling, there are categories to put competitors as per their weight.

I would like to conclude this article by writing; if you will take a close look, it is us humans (mainly politicians) who have compromised our own labour, hardwork and healthy competiveness for our superficial benefits. And for those who are under the umbrella of reservation/quota system, do u ever realise that you are being played in the hands of politicians? From last 1-2 years, taking on the tradition initiated after independence, every candidate from every party is trying to get complete and firm hold of some minorities present in India.

Well the reality stands- We all may cry our lungs out, in talking against or in favour of reservation but in the end of the day, bread earned from sweat tastes sweeter.  (Enough said for those who understand)
