Digital War Tools

Note: When I write ‘Digital tools’, I am not including print and visual media.

I am not aware of any real time benefits that we Indians have received from USA based giants.  Please exclude McDonald’s ka burger and Porn off the list. With two genius minds from India who are sitting at the helm of Nokia and Microsoft, I think it’s a one way process. Having written this, a number of digital benefits provided to us have just proved me wrong. Three USA based companies have given us one of the most important tools to lead a life with freedom and consciousness. I won’t feel shame in accepting the fact that till some years ago, the youth of our country was quiet illiterate. The usage of internet was limited to porn and music. See we are obsessed with Porn and Lady Gaga!

So, in what way websites and messaging services like Facebook, Twitter and Whatsapp were able to educate us?

Answer is simple- ‘A’ likes a joke sent by J and A forwards that joke to C, D and E. And in this way this joke that was created by J in his very personal space reaches millions around the country and globe. Obviously some may love it or shove it!

Now looking at how these digital tools enlightened us before and during election season-

From last 365 days my Facebook wall was painted in so many colours, mostly with saffron as the result day was approaching. There were people posing and displaying their hardcore love for country by supporting different candidates from various parties. While a group of educated individuals was raising voice in the support of AAP, a few were always present to pull the leg. While some ‘I am a Hindu’ kinds of people were vouching for Modi aka BJP, there were a few digging the grave.  And the rest of citizens who tagged AAP as being unstable and BJP being an ‘anti-muslim’ party, gave their voice to Congress. Then obviously there was Rakhi Sawant with a brand new party Rastriya Aam Party (Don’t you try to pronounce the abbreviation in front of your parents)

Without naming that particular group on Facebook, I witnessed a very healthy discussion over all the aspects of election. All the people who were attached to that group had done their home work quiet well.  As for Twitter, it became a personal platform for our PM elect Mr. Narendra Modi. For those who were too busy to watch his speeches and rallies got his message through tweets. Mobile messaging service Whatsapp was used in a large scale by almost all parties to promote their so-called welfare schemes.

What does this all tells us? It tells us, Whatever we read influence us more than any other medium of promotion.
Hatsoff to the PR team of Mr. Modi!
