We all were hopeful that my father,
who was in extreme critical situation, will come out of the mouth of death and
will live more 10 years of good life.
Well that didn’t happen and he left
us on 29th February, 2016.
(Sometimes I ask myself why 2016 has
to be a leap year but then what if it had been 2012?)
Why HOPE is important?
At the time
of extreme struggle, sadness and dark, when everything else stands effect less,
it is hope that finds you a ray of light.
Last few
months of my life, starting from September 2015 when father was first admitted
in a hospital, had been rough. I think me and my family went through every
possible emotion a normal human can have. Be it being ignorant about death,
running through crowd to reach blood bank, calculating finance, finding solace
in long lost friends, practicing every superstition, emotional breakdown,
physical complications, professional burden and then obviously, keeping the hope
alive. It was quite a task for immediate family members and a few from extended
family to manage the run from and to hospital. Every single day, a bad news
would strike upon us only to break us a little but then there was hope. Every
day, the body parameters would come down from bad to worst only to make us
blank but then there was hope.
And now that
he is gone forever, I ask myself, does hope really help us?
The answer
is Yes! May be the firm and strong hope that we held all these months didn’t
pay but it did a little magic. It kept us, the family members alive. It may
sound too dramatic to those who have never been through such odd times but it
is a long, trouble filled road when your close one is suffering from cancer. It
is a tough journey. And this is where you need hope, a lots of it.
Never ever
in these months I heard my mother or brother speak anything negative about the
end result of father’s health. Obviously, no wife or son would ever speak wrong
for father and husband’s health but understand such circumstances, unwanted
sentences are spoken. Hope gives you positivity. It makes you a positive
person. On 7th February when doctor had declared his helplessness,
we were still positive for father’s recovery. It was the hope that made us do
daily stuffs. If hope would have been missing of our life, it would have placed
us on to the next bed to father’s. You know, in such times, people stop socializing,
eating, talking and breathing. Luckily, we did all this so that we can take
care of father.
Strength. It
is not only in a sport field where you need to showcase all your strength but
also in daily life. Now when I look back on those days, I am too surprised to see
how we managed all that we had too. This is purely a strong punch of hope that
never made us weak and dull. It was a quite a task to run all through a sunny
day, sometimes to collect a report or to buy blood platelets. When such hard
times strike upon you, you are at your best.
Hope can’t always have real miracles but it does make the whole struggle a little smooth!
