I am a banker by profession. While that already works as a
cake, being a Sbian (that’s the modern day name for newly joined employees of
State Bank of India) is no less than a cherry dipped in chocolate sauce!
Processing loan files, coordinating with customers, sanctioning of loan amount
and the follow up are some of the to-do of my job profile. But when you are a
banker at largest PSU bank, you just don’t do one work a day. It’s always
multi-tasking, indirectly if not direct (Only fellow bankers can understand)
Walking back down my recent memories lane, it was all peaceful till 8th
November. The usual evening hours where in place, just when my official
WhatsApp group that is regularly filled with 5pages long text about Maharashtra
history or usual forward messages and the best Marathi poems, flashed the most
unusual news of the year! No it was not Trump yet! It was the master stroke
played by the most talked Prime Minister of world’s best democratic country- Mr
Narendra Damodardas Modi. It was the news that would make banker’s sleep and
comfort run away for coming months!
Demonetization of 500 and 1000
notes!!
The above words are probably the most
read and heard words after August 1947 when India came to know about its
freedom.
While a bunch of heavy, angry crowd was expected at every
branch and official around the nation, after a day gap, when the branches
opened, a lot had changed. The scene was exactly, that can be expected from us,
IMPATIENT Indians. We can pain our legs and body while standing in temple, for
fried chicken, outside trial rooms, at box office counter for 400rs ticket but
we can’t give 1-2 hours for a change. Not just a change, a national level
change which has been applauded even by the World Bank and other well known
financial organisations. Though we have managed to maintain the crowd at branch
till now, some loopholes still remains. A few customers, most of them who look
educated and civilized behave in the worst of form. They have no respect for
bank officials, be it an old clerk or a lady employee. They enter into the
premises, loaded with unnecessary aggression and self-prioritized attitude. We
came across maximum of such incidents on Saturday and Sunday when private
sector companies remains close.
While I take no extra, decorated pride in working on
holidays for such a big cause, what pains a little is no appreciation from
fellow citizens. If we can appreciate the efforts of soldiers in keeping our
country safe then we can surely speak in respect with a bank official. If they
are risking their lives, we are no way leading a healthy life. Too many
personal incidents related to employees of banking industry remain unseen and
untouched from public’s views. There are many technology/system related issues
that we are facing these days. While I am eager to give out details, my
professional commitment restricts me from doing so. If the public is standing
in queue since long hours, we are no way relaxing inside the branch. Atleast
you have all the leisure time to call up a friend and talk or ask your family
members about usual well being. Here, we have to take out a few minutes to do
the necessary stuff!
Whatever it is, now at this big hour of change, I would not
hide from accepting the fact that I voted for AAP/Arvind Kejriwal in 2014 and I
regret it. I know talking about my vote at this part of article is irrelevant
but then this is my blog. So I am a free bird here! The way India has grown in
past years, only a person like Narendra Modi can do the needful. May God give my Prime Minister a lot more
strength to fight the evils of past. While I am still not sure that corruption
will be fully eradicated from India, the first step taken is a huge one.
Personally, it feels great to play a mini in the whole economic storm!!
Thus the title of this article, Bankers- The Minis in the Whole.
